Cybersecurity or information security deals with protecting computer systems, networks and data from unauthorized access by any potential threat. With the increase in digital technologies and connectivity, cybersecurity has become a vital element for global security, both for individuals and organizations. Being so, the need of a strong base of cyberliteracy is a critical.
In this course, we learned the basics of cybersecurity like: cloud security, network security, 0-day exploits and SQL injection, by making two websites. We mainly focused on server side security.
Our course included a hands on experience. Outside the cyber literacy we were taught the importance of sharing infromation and working in a team. While we were working together the two teams collectively found different holes in the security, that they shared with the rest of the team.
Using this method, we were able to find exploits faster and fix them earlier in the development process. We were given the opportunity to create and host a site on a custom domain, while we made sure it is well secured. Split into two teams, our competence, teamwork and skills, gained from this course, were rigorously tested by our mentor Mr. Claudio Ferrareis.
In conclusion, the lessons and tasks we were given have been a major benefit and will be really useful in our professional career as IT specialists.
